BIRDS & BEASTS Large Piped Cushion in Terracotta
Screen printed ‘Birds & Beasts’ cushion printed on both sides and piped in matching linen.
This design is from 'Garden of the Gods', a collection of hand-printed interiors fabrics inspired by the Greek island of Corfu and zoologist Gerald Durrell's books, narrating his time spent there as a child in the 1940s.
Named after the second book in the trilogy, 'Birds and Beasts' is a zoological parade of the many species to be found on Corfu and mentioned, chased, bought and collected by Gerry throughout the three books.
Although Durrell had a self-confessed lack of interest in ancient history, the illustrations reference my comparatively short time spent in Greece exploring museums and ruins and draw on styles from traditional folk embroidery and ancient Greek pottery.
Please note: print placement will vary from cushion to cushion as the repeat for this design is quite large.
